Congresswoman Matsui Statement on the Retirement of John Dingell

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement on Congressman John Dingell's (MI-12) announcement that he will not seek reelection this fall:

"John has been a friend, colleague and role model for years, and his absence will be greatly felt in the halls of Congress. During his nearly 60 years in the House of Representatives, John has shaped policies that improved the lives of every American. He has fought tirelessly to secure and protect civil rights, worked for environmental protections including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act, and has been a leading champion for our nation's health - including the passage of Medicare and the Affordable Care Act.

"John has been a true leader in Congress. His passion for helping his fellow Americans, and his historic institutional knowledge cannot be replaced. He has served his district and his country with the highest distinction, and I wish him and Debbie nothing but the best in their future endeavors."
