Congresswoman Matsui Supports Retroactive Pay for Furloughed Federal Employees
Urges House Republican Leadership to immediately bring for a vote the Senate-passed clean government funding bill so we can reopen the government
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement after she voted in support of the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act (H.R. 3223), which she co-sponsored, to ensure all federal employees receive back pay once the federal government re-opens, regardless of their furlough status:
"Across our nation, 800,000 federal workers who work hard to make our nation a safer and better place to live are losing their pay as a result of the government shutdown. In the Sacramento region we have thousands of federal workers who have been affected. The bill passed today reaffirms our commitment to our federal workforce and ensures these families receive retroactive compensation, as has been done in past shutdowns.
"Authorizing back pay is an important step for federal workers, but even more crucial is ending the shutdown and opening the government so federal workers can get back to work. The House Republican Leadership must immediately bring up the Senate-passed clean funding bill, which would go directly to the President and open up the entire government for all of the American people right now. We have the votes to pass this bill as soon as House Republican Leadership brings it up for a vote; however thus far they have refused to do so. This must happen immediately."
