MATSUI ANNOUNCES DR. OLIVIA KASIRYE AS VIRTUAL GUEST TO STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON, D.C.Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) announced that Sacramento County Public Health Officer, Dr. Olivia Kasirye, will be her virtual guest for President Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday, March 1.

The State of the Union address will highlight the achievements and work still to be done under the leadership of President Biden. While safety protocols will limit this year’s in-person attendance, Congresswoman Matsui is pleased to honor and thank Dr. Kasirye for her tireless work in safely leading the Sacramento community through the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. 

“In his first year in office, President Biden made historic progress delivering on his economic vision – providing direct aid to families, adding a record number of jobs, and investing in a robust COVID-19 vaccine program that helped safeguard the return of businesses, schools, and communities,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “I am proud to have worked with my colleagues and the Biden Administration to pass the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – bold policies that are driving this country’s economic growth and recovery. As we continue this important work, we must also take the time to honor our community heroes who have helped us persevere throughout the pandemic. I am thrilled to have Dr. Olivia Kasirye join as my virtual guest for tomorrow, and thank her for her guidance, vigilance, and service to the Sacramento community. Dr. Kasirye embodies the resilience and compassion of our region and together, I look forward to hearing President Biden speak about his plans to take on the domestic and foreign challenges ahead while continuing to lift up Americans and their families.”

Dr. Olivia Kasirye has decades of experience including her work as the Medical Director of the Sacramento County Child Health and Disability Prevention program and the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health program and as the Communicable Disease Controller. Dr. Kasirye received a Medical Degree from the Makerere University Medical School in Kampala, Uganda. She also has a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology from the University of California, Davis. She is Board Certified in Public Health and General Preventative Medicine. She also formerly served as the El Dorado County Public Health Officer.
