Matsui Announces Funding for Sacramento Projects in President's Budget Outline
Over $98 Million for Sacramento Flood Protection; $46 Million for South Line Phase II Extension

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) released the following statement in response to the funding for local flood and transportation projects that was included in President Obama's Fiscal Year 2013 budget. The budget allocates over $98 million to Sacramento's flood projects, and $46 million for the South Line Phase II extension.

"Though we continue to work within the constraints of an incredibly austere budget environment, the President's budget proposal for FY 2013 will ensure that many of Sacramento's projects will continue to receive federal support.

"Keeping Sacramento's flood protection projects moving forward is of paramount concern to me and the constituents I represent. The President has requested $98 million for our flood protection priorities. Taken together, these projects will help us achieve much improved flood protection levels, protect public safety, and create good jobs in our region. The President's budget outline is a good start for Sacramento's flood priorities and I will continue to fight for full funding for all of our flood protection projects.

"I am also very pleased to see that the Obama Administration continues its support for RT's South Line Phase II Extension. The President has requested an additional $46 million for the project, which will help spur much-needed hiring in our construction sector, enable RT to complete the project in a timely manner, and provide additional public transportation options to Sacramento residents.

"Investing in infrastructure projects will ensure a city, and a nation, that is built to last."

The President's budget calls for the following funding levels for Sacramento's flood protection projects:

  • Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project - $86,700,000
To continue construction on the auxiliary spillway, which will provide greater efficiency in managing flood storage in Folsom Reservoir and 200-year level of protection to much of Sacramento.
  • American River Watershed Common Features - $6,400,000
For levee work along the American River Watershed, including further design work in support of levee improvements in Natomas and across Sacramento.
  • Folsom Dam Raise - $5,100,000
To raise Folsom Dam to help achieve 200-year-flood protection for the region.
