MATSUI ANNOUNCES OVER $1.86 BILLION FEDERAL INVESTMENT IN CALIFORNIA’S BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07), Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, announced over $1.86 billion in federal funding for California broadband infrastructure. The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, which represents the single-largest federal government effort to expand digital connectivity across the United States.
“Regardless of age, zip code, or income level, Americans need to be able to get online,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “Whether it’s growing your business, submitting a homework assignment, or accessing a telehealth appointment, broadband access determines who gets to participate and succeed in the 21st Century. From our urban core to the most rural areas of the region, we can and must do better. That’s why we must use every tool at our disposal to close the digital divide, address historical access barriers, and lift up our most underserved communities.”
“The BEAD program represents a transformational investment to help us close the persistent gaps in broadband access,” Matsui continued. “I am partnering with federal, state, local and industry partners to ensure that we maximize its positive impact. Unserved folks across the district are desperate to get connectivity to their homes and communities. Today’s announcement gets us one giant step closer to making these improvements a reality.”
