Matsui Announces Virtual Guest for President Biden's Address to Joint Session of Congress

April 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) announced that Ms. Julie Omishakin, a Nurse Practitioner who has worked on the frontline of the pandemic response with the Sacramento Native American Health Center (SNAHC), will be her virtual guest for President Biden's address to a Joint Session of Congress on Wednesday.

The address, which is President Biden's first speech to a Joint Session of Congress, marks 100 days into the President's first term. In the past, Members of Congress have often invited constituents to join them as guests to such speeches. While COVID-19 safety protocols mean this year's in-person attendance will be limited, Congresswoman Matsui said inviting Ms. Omishakin as her virtual guest is an important way to honor the people of the Sacramento region and lift up their stories.

"Over the first 100 days of his Administration, President Biden has presented a bold vision to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic and build our economy back better so that it works for all Americans. The American Rescue Plan has delivered a robust network of vaccine distribution sites to get shots in arms, money directly into people's pockets, and support to get Americans back to work," said Congresswoman Matsui. "As we move down the road to recovery, we must honor our American heroes who have stood on the front lines of this pandemic and made sure that our communities stay safe and healthy. It is my privilege to have Julie Omishakin as my guest tomorrow, who has served the Sacramento community during this pandemic and who truly embodies our collective spirit. I look forward to hearing President Biden speak about how we will continue to work for the needs of the American people and ensure a better future for all."

"I am proud to join Congresswoman Matsui as her virtual guest tomorrow her work to secure needed resources for our region has been crucial to help us fight the pandemic and reach every corner of our community," said Julie Omishakin. "Every day, I see the impact on our patients and our region's families. I look forward to hearing from President Biden on his vision to continue moving the country towards recovery."

Julie Omishakin is a Family Nurse Practitioner with the Sacramento Native American Health Center (SNAHC), a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Midtown Sacramento, where she has been serving the Sacramento community on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Julie has played a crucial role for SNAHC, educating her patients about the importance of proactively improving one's personal health, especially during the public health crisis.
