Matsui Applauds House Passage of
Natomas Levee Funding
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) applauded the House of Representatives' passage of legislation providing $42 million for continued construction of the Natomas Levee Improvement Project. When completed, the Natomas Project will reduce flood risk for 80,000 people and $7 billion dollars of property.
"It's clear that Congress recognizes the importance of our levee projects in the Sacramento area and the need to fund them expeditiously," said Congresswoman Matsui. "Today's vote to provide additional funding for the Natomas Project is another flood protection victory for our region. This money, on top of the historic $1.8 billion secured earlier this year, brings us another step closer to the level of flood protection that the Sacramento area deserves."
Congresswoman Matsui has helped secure over $140 million in federal funding for the Natomas Project over the past three years. In July, Congresswoman Matsui announced almost $1.8 billion for two flood control projects in the Sacramento region, the American River Common Features and Folsom Dam Raise projects.
H.R. 5895, the legislation that includes the Natomas levee funding, passed the House by a vote of 377-20 and has already passed the Senate.
