Matsui Applauds Passage of STOCK Act

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) released the following statement after the House passed the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, legislation to ban insider trading by members of Congress and their aides on non-public knowledge, by a vote of 417 to 2.

I am pleased that the House has finally had the opportunity to consider this commonsense legislation. Members should not be held to different standards from the people we represent, and the STOCK Act will ensure that the same rules that apply to the American people apply to Congress.

Despite weakening of the bill by my Republican colleagues in the House, this legislation will enable Congress to rebuild trust with our constituents by increasing transparency. Today, we were able to take a bipartisan step to make government more accountable to the American people.

Congresswoman Matsui was a cosponsor of the STOCK Act. Last week, she signed a discharge petition so that the House legislation would be released from committee and brought to the floor for a vote.
