January 15, 2019

Washington, D.C. Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), a senior Member of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee, today was appointed to four Energy and Commerce Subcommittees on Health, Environment and Climate Change, Communications and Technology, and Consumer Protection and Commerce.

"I am pleased to serve on these important Energy and Commerce Subcommittees," said Congresswoman Matsui. "On these Subcommittees, I plan to continue my focus on expanding access to health care, tackling climate change, expanding broadband deployment, and promoting spectrum policies to achieve 5G and beyond."

On the Subcommittee on Health, Congresswoman Matsui has worked tirelessly to improve access to high-quality health care, and was instrumental in crafting the Affordable Care Act. She is a leader in Congress on the rapidly growing field of telehealth, and has authored bipartisan legislation to revitalize and expand the community-based mental health system and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics. She will continue to fight to lower the cost of health care and prescription medicines while expanding health coverage and access to more Americans.

On the Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change, Congresswoman Matsui is a leader on addressing climate change and protecting the environment, including serving as Co-chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). She works tirelessly to ensure that everyone has access to clean air and clean water, and has made tackling climate change a top priority by working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make our cars more fuel efficient. On the Subcommittee, she will continue to be a vocal proponent for commonsense efforts to protect our planet for generations to come.

On the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, Congresswoman Matsui has been a leader on communications and technology policy, including launching and serving as a Co-Chair of the Congressional High Tech Caucus and Co-chair of the Congressional Spectrum Caucus. She has authored multiple provisions of law that have facilitated the record-breaking AWS-3 spectrum auction and focused on commercializing federally-held spectrum for wireless use. She plans to continue to prioritize her work on various spectrum policy initiatives and on the next generation of broadband networks, such as 5G. She will also focus on the deployment of the technologies and infrastructure necessary to ensure American consumers benefit from the services enabled by these networks.

On the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce, Congresswoman Matsui plans to continue to focus on technology and autonomous vehicle policies. Specifically, she will continue to prioritize policies to facilitate the deployment of innovative technologies such as autonomous vehicles, blockchain, and the Internet of Things. She will also focus on how to leverage these technologies to transform how we conduct business, transact, and travel while promoting consumer safety and protection.
