Matsui Issues Statement on the Passage of Supplemental Aid Package

April 23, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement on the passage of the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act.

"The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause enormous strain on our communities and local economies. Although our country has shown amazing resiliency during this difficult time, the federal government must continue to provide the tools and resources to keep Americans safe and healthy," said Congresswoman Matsui, Sacramento's voice in Congress. "While this bill provides immediate relief to ramp-up testing and support small businesses, we must get right back to work to address the true magnitude of the challenge ahead. This is a matter of life and death, and we owe it to the American people to give them all of the support they deserve."

The Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act includes the following provisions:

  • Over $370 billion for small businesses
  • $75 billion to support frontline health care workers and hospitals
  • $25 billion for a new national testing strategy

This interim emergency aid package builds on the three bills already signed into law:

  • $8.3 billion the House passed for preparedness, prevention and more
  • The Families First Coronavirus Response Act
  • The CARES Act
