MATSUI RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT TRUMP’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union Address. 

“Tonight’s State of the Union was exactly what Americans have come to expect from President Trump: a performance built on distortion, grievance, and fantasy,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “For hours, the American people were subjected to Donald Trump’s unintelligible vision of America—completely blind to the cold, cruel reality his policies have created. Here is the truth: we are sicker, less safe, poorer, and more divided. Families are struggling to afford groceries and rent. Millions have lost access to health care. Communities are living in fear. Instead of offering real solutions, the President delivered self-praise and empty rhetoric.”

“After a year of chipping away at our institutions and unleashing authoritarian ICE operations in our cities, Trump is now setting his sights on voting rights, unchecked control of our armed forces, and doubling down on his reckless, illegal tariffs,” Matsui continued. “This was not a State of the Union. It was a State of the Scam. I will fight this administration at every turn. And when Democrats retake the House, accountability and corrective action will be swift. The American people deserve leadership rooted in truth, compassion, and competence. Tonight, they got none of it.”
