CA Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) issued the following statement in response to the City of Sacramento's announcement today that the City has submitted a plan to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in an effort to address the concerns and problems that resulted after the City incorrectly issued building permits in Natomas last fall:
I am pleased that the City has taken the appropriate steps needed to put forth a plan to FEMA about how they can move forward from the disappointing permit issue that happened last October. For the sake of the thousands of homeowners that currently receive a discounted flood insurance rate, it was imperative that the City address this problem and fix it. The repercussions of increasing the flood insurance rates of my constituents would be devastating, and I will do everything I can in working with the City and FEMA to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. Protecting my constituents from the threats of flooding will always be my number one priority, and that includes working toward insurance coverage to protect their homes at a price they can afford.
FEMA now has 30 days to respond to the City.
