Matsui Statement on Contraceptive Rule Compromise

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced that they would be revising the rule related to preventive services so that insurers would cover contraceptives for women employed at religious institutions:

"I am supportive of President Obama's announced compromise. At the end of the day, what matters above all else is that women will have access to the full range of preventive care services recommended by the Institute of Medicine.

"As we know, contraceptive services are essential in helping women have planned pregnancies, which is itself critical in protecting the health of a woman and her children. The vast majority of women will use contraception at some point; however, women between the ages of 18 to 34 struggle to afford it.

"The President's compromise will ensure that women have access to free contraceptive services through their insurers, and are able to make their own decisions regarding their health. I applaud this important advance for women's health, and will continue fighting for every American woman to have the care she needs and deserves."
