Matsui Statement on Earthquake in Japan, Tsunami in Pacific
Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) issued the following statement today after an 8.9 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan, triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific Ocean, including California:
The images of destruction in Japan are devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan, and their loved ones around the world.
I encourage any of my constituents who may be traveling or know someone traveling in Japan or any of the affected areas to call my Sacramento office for assistance. I also encourage any of my constituents who may traveling to follow all warnings and protocols issues by our emergency management agencies and their employees.
Sacramento residents who need assistance are encouraged to call the Congresswoman's Sacramento office at (916) 498-5600; or (001) (916) 498-5600 from outside the U.S. or Canada.
- U.S. citizens in Japan are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at the following website: https://travelregistration.state.gov. By enrolling, U.S. citizens make it easier for the Embassy/Consulates to contact them in case of emergency.
