MATSUI STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER SHANE BARNES

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement on the passing of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Shane M. Barnes, one of the five service members killed on Friday in a helicopter crash during a training exercise over the Mediterranean Sea. Chief Warrant Officer Barnes was a Sacramento region native.

“On Friday, we lost a brave member of our regional community,” said Congresswoman Matsui.“Every day, the men and women of our nation’s armed services risk their lives so that we can live ours safely and in freedom. Chief Warrant Officer Barnes chose this path of valor and service to others. As a nation, we owe him and his family a debt of gratitude. We must honor Chief Warrant Officer Barnes’ legacy – as a decorated soldier, father, husband, son, and member of the Sacramento community. My prayers are with his loved ones and the loved ones of all five brave Americans we lost.”
