Matsui Statement on the Passing of Wayne Thiebaud

SACRAMENTO, CA. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement after the passing of Wayne Thiebaud, world-acclaimed artist and Sacramento community icon.

“Art has the power to captivate, heal, and bring us together – and there is no better example than my dear friend Wayne Thiebaud in his ability to connect people through the creative process,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “Throughout his illustrious career, Wayne not only ignited our imaginations, but drew on our shared experiences and enabled us to gather a deeper community understanding. Wayne’s love for the Sacramento region never ceased to shine through – he cherished the people, the environment, and the cultural institutions that make our city great. He brought his work to our local venues, brightening our public spaces and enabling us to immerse ourselves in the joy of art. The light he emanated will forever guide us to share our experiences, our voices, and our creative expression to make our community a more vibrant place. My prayers are with all of Wayne’s family and friends during this difficult time. Wayne will truly be missed.”
