MATSUI STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT TRUMP’S JOINT ADDRESS TO CONGRESS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress. 

“Tonight, President Trump once again misled the American people with a speech riddled with falsehoods and petty grievances—further fueling the chaos that has defined the first six weeks of his Administration,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “This speech wasn’t a vision for America’s future prosperity. It was a stark reminder of just how little the everyday American means to him. He calls health care for millions of Medicaid recipients ‘waste.’ He defines government efficiency as cutting the jobs of scientists, veterans, and public servants who keep Americans healthy and thriving. His foreign policy consists of alienating allies and imposing tariffs on key trading partners. Tonight, he had the arrogance to look the American people in the eye and tell them this chaos is a renewal of the American dream.”

“The truth is that President Trump has done nothing to lower the cost of living. He has done nothing to make America safer and more secure,” Matsui continued. “Instead, it’s hardworking Americans—the ones striving to put food on the table and a roof over their heads—who are bearing the brunt of his reckless policies. That’s why I won’t back down. I will fight to protect Medicaid. I will fight back against his extreme budget proposal and his overreach. Standing up to Donald Trump will be a long battle—but I’m ready for the fight.”
