Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D-Sacramento) issued the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's address today regarding the way forward on health insurance reform:
The President's address to the American public today about the future of our health insurance reform efforts will help pave the way for delivering access to quality, affordable health care for Sacramento families and seniors.
The President's plan includes several Republican proposals and several Democratic proposals, including many of my own. But what is most critical -- and what we cannot forget in the coming months -- is that health insurance reform legislation will help American families gain access to the quality health care they deserve at a cost they can afford.
As Members of Congress, we have heard tremendous input from our constituents during this debate. And we have strengthened the legislation as a result. We are finally near the culmination of an open and transparent process that will deliver the best bill possible for American families. The American people and my constituents deserve an up-or-down vote on this bill by their representatives in Congress, and I look forward to taking that vote and delivering health insurance reform for Sacramento's families and seniors.
