Matsui Statement on President's Wireless Coverage Expansion Announcement

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a Co-Chair of the Congressional High-Tech Caucus and a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement applauding President Obama's Wireless Innovation and Infrastructure Initiative, a plan announced earlier today to build-out high-speed wireless services across the United States:

I applaud the President's Wireless Innovation and Infrastructure Initiative to make high-speed wireless services available to 98 percent of Americans. I recognize how essential accessible and affordable telecommunications services are in our technology-driven age, which is why I have been a consistent advocate for universal broadband adoption.

Americans and businesses simply cannot compete in today's world without access to technology. The wireless build-out plan outlined by the President will allow for businesses to grow faster, students to learn more, and our public safety to be enhanced. Furthermore, it will bring us much closer to bridging the digital divide that exists today, a divide we must overcome in order to achieve full and lasting economic recovery.
