MATSUI STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT DECISION IN TRUMP IMMUNITY CASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. United States.

“Today’s decision grants former President Trump extensive immunity – a man who has proven to have absolute disregard for our democratic process,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “The rule of law is the foundation of American democracy. Those who take an oath to uphold the Constitution have a sacred duty to protect it. Time and again, Donald Trump has put himself above the law and before the needs of the nation. He has actively sought to silence the voices of the American people and overthrow our most sacred democratic institutions. No one is above the law. Not President Trump and not any future president. Lies, misinformation, and demagoguery must have consequences. That’s why we must continue to stand up, defend, and never take our democracy for granted.”
