Matsui Statement on Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Decision to Continue Funding Planned Parenthood

Today, after the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation reversed their decision from earlier this week and announced they will continue to fund Planned Parenthood through grant awards, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) released the following statement:

"I am pleased that Susan G. Komen for the Cure has listened to the thousands of us across the country who raised our voices this week in opposition to their decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood - including Sacramento's own local Komen for the Cure affiliate organization. After a year of fierce debate over women's issues in Congress, it was uplifting to witness so many Americans come together in the name of women's health.

"As we know, Planned Parenthood clinics are often the only source of care for women - especially those in underserved communities - and over 90 percent of the care they provide are preventive services, like breast exams.

"It is critical that we continue to support our community clinics, not tear them down, in order to ensure every American has access to the care they need. And we must never put politics above care, for anyone."
