MATSUI STATEMENT ON VOTE TO AVOID GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

September 30, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07), issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 5860, a bill that will provide for continuing government funding and disaster relief. H.R. 5860 passed the house 335–91.

“Today, I voted to keep the government funded and open for business,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “After months of the extreme right pushing draconian budget cuts and harmful policies, my Democratic colleagues and I prevailed in passing a bipartisan temporary spending bill to keep the government open. Ultimately, the American people have won. A government shutdown would have had devastating consequences across the nation, but House Democrats chose to take the responsible path and do what was necessary to keep critical programs up and running.”

“Since day one of this Congress, my Democratic colleagues and I have been ready, willing, and able to find bipartisan solutions that deliver for the American people,” Matsui continued. “The American people need leadership, not political games – and I will continue to fight to ensure we do what is necessary to deliver real solutions.”
