Matsui Votes to Increase State and Local Tax Deduction for California Families
WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-6) issued the following statement following the passage of H.R.5377, the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act of 2019, to temporarily repeal the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap for Americans.
"In states like California, we choose to provide our citizens with high-quality education, health care, and social services. Unfortunately, the Republican tax plan passed under the previous Congress hurt California families by subjecting them to double taxation federally taxing money paid to states, counties, and cities through taxes," said Congresswoman Matsui. "Today, I am proud to join my colleagues in repealing the SALT tax deduction cap for the next two years boosting the Golden State's cap to $20,000. This puts money back in the pockets of Sacramento area families, and I am pleased that it doubles deductions that teachers and first responders take for on-the-job expenses."
