Rep. Doris Matsui Announces Additional $2 Million for UC Davis in Recovery Act Funding
Funds will Enable UC Davis to Purchase Advanced Microscope; Will Enhance Our Understanding of Cancer, Bacterial or Viral Infections, and Basic Biological Processes

Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) today announced an additional $2 million in stimulus funds for UC Davis for advanced microscopes for medical research studies.

The Dynamic TEM microscope will allow UC Davis researchers and students to observe biological processes on the nanosecond and nanometer scale. The purchase of this instrument, the best of its kind, will enable milestone advancements in our understanding of cancer, bacterial or viral infections, and basic biological processes.

"I am pleased to announce an additional $2 million in recovery package funds for the Sacramento region, funds that will further our understanding of a series of viruses, infections, diseases and in turn, shed new light on possible cures," stated Congresswoman Matsui. "It is imperative that we continue to support medical research with federal funding. I look forward to see the research breakthroughs that come as a result of this funding, and am pleased to see additional recovery funds continue to provide better medical services and diagnoses in the coming years."
