Rep. Doris Matsui Announces an Estimated $27.96 Million in Additional Social Security Payments for Sacramento Residents from Stimulus Funds

$250 Will Be Distributed to Each Social Security, Railroad Retirement, Veterans Disability, and Supplemental Security Beneficiaries

Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) announced that according to the Social Security Administration, Sacramento residents will receive an estimated $27.96 million in stimulus funds, which will be allocated in one-time payments of $250 to each eligible beneficiary in the coming weeks. These funds have been made available from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that Congresswoman Matsui supported and President Obama signed into law on February 17, 2009.

The newly-announced funds will be disbursed automatically in economic recovery payments of $250 to Social Security, Railroad Retirement, Veterans Disability, and Supplemental Security beneficiaries over the coming months. According to numbers provided by the Social Security Administration, these funds will directly help 111,840 Sacramentans. No action is required to get the payment, which will be sent separately from the person's regular monthly payment

andquot; The release of these economic recovery payments will provide much needed relief to these beneficiaries during the current economic recession, andquot; said Congresswoman Matsui. "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is investing in projects across Sacramento, and giving Sacramentans the direct relief they need to try and make ends meet."
