Rep. Doris Matsui Applauds Budget Request for Sacramento's Transportation Projects
FY 2012 Federal Budget Proposes $50 Million for Sacramento RT

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) issued the following statement today following the release of President Obama's budget outline for Fiscal Year 2012, which cuts the overall deficit by $1.1 trillion, but recommends $50 million for the South Line Phase II Extension for Sacramento Rapid Transit:

I am so pleased to see that the South Line Phase II Extension funding was included in the President's budget proposal. An additional $50 million federal investment in this project will help enable RT to complete this project in a timely manner, spur much-needed hiring in our construction sector, and provide additional public transportation options to Sacramento residents.

The Administration's budget makes cuts for a wide array of worthy programs, some of which I have concerns with. But I applaud the commitment they have shown to prioritizing the infrastructure projects that will create jobs, improve public safety, and invest in public transit needs.

Sacramento Vice Mayor Bonnie Pennell added, Our community is excited about the major funding support for South Line Phase II to Cosumnes River College. They have waited a long time and they can see the trains coming! I want to thank our President, and our local champion, Congresswoman Doris Matsui for her tireless efforts on behalf of the community of Sacramento.
