Sacramento, CA - Rep. Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) will attend the 2009 Fire Fighters Burn Brigade and BBQ at the UC Davis Medical Center (UCDMC) Health System, tomorrow, Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 1:00 PM to give remarks and meet with the UC Davis Faculty and Burn Center Staff, as well Sacramento fire fighters, nurses and community members.

The 2009 Fire Fighters Burn Brigade and BBQ will celebrate the construction and fundraising efforts for the new facilities needed for increased demand for the center's services. Upon completion, the new center will be named the Fire Fighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center at the UC Davis Health System. The event will also honor 2009 Burn Brigade award winners, and recognize the success of the Fire Fighters Burn Institute.

Rep. Matsui secured $2.4 million in federal funding in fiscal year 2008, and an additional $4 million in fiscal year 2009 to establish the infrastructure at UCDMC to coordinate a nationwide research effort aimed at developing new procedures and best practices for the holistic treatment of burn injuries.

"As a result of our work to secure federal funding and UC Davis Medical Center's staff dedication to providing the best possible care, Sacramento is home to one of the world's top burn units," said Rep. Matsui. "Here in Sacramento, our fire fighters are on the front lines, protecting us all. Their service to our community is immeasurable and irreplaceable, which is why continued support of the Fire Fighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center is so critical."
