Rep. Doris Matsui Votes to Continue Federal Government Funding; Bill will bring much needed funding to Sacramento
Today, Rep. Doris Matsui voted for H.R.2638, the FY09 Continuing Resolution, which passed by a vote of 370-58. The continuing resolution funds the federal government and agencies until March, 2009.
andquot;Although I wish we had been able to complete all of our bills this year, political stunts by the congressional minority and continued veto threats prevented us from doing so,andquot; said Rep. This CR makes a number of important investments in Sacramento projects and ensures that flood control projects will continue.andquot;
In addition to funding numerous federal agencies and programs - including critical flood protection projects - the CR includes $22.9 billion in disaster relief funding for those parts of the country affected by recent natural disasters. The CR also provides vital funding for Sacramento area initiatives. These include:
Former McClellan Air Force Base Infrastructure Improvements. $2.4 million for the next phase of transportation improvements at the former McClellan Air Force Base.
Military Burn Trauma Research Program. $4 million for burn victim clinical trials to improve treatment at the UC Davis Burn Center.
Defense Microelectronics Activity Funding. $2 million to improve the manufacturing process behind microchips for defense applications at a Sacramento area Department of Defense facility.
Renewable Energy Testing Center. $1.6 million to test renewable energy applications.
Hydrocarbon Boost Technology Demonstrator. $1.4 million, to develop liquid hydrocarbon rocket engine for military and NASA use.
Bone Marrow Failure Disorder Research. $5 million for research of diseases such as aplastic anemia and MDS.
American Red Cross, Sacramento-Sierra Chapter. $35,000 to help the American Red Cross upgrade the information technology system at their emergency operations center.
Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). $837.5 million for first responder funding for terrorism prevention, planning and response efforts.
National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). Language establishing funding level at 23.78 million
