Rep. Matsui Announces $4.1 Million for Natomas Flood Protection Efforts

October 4, 2017

Today, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) announced $4.1 million for flood protection efforts in Natomas.

These funds will be used to reimburse the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA) for previous work done in Natomas and will go toward additional public safety improvements in the area.

andquot;Today we secured a much needed $4.1 million in additional funding for levee work in Natomas. This funding will enable SAFCA to continue construction so that the 70,000 Natomas residents will have the flood protection they need to keep their families safe. I will continue to work to ensure that the Federal government is a responsible partner and does its part financially, andquot; said Rep. Matsui.

andquot; On behalf of SAFCA, Chair Fargo and the Board of Directors, I would like to express our appreciation for the tremendous support from Congresswoman Matsui which made this possible. We will plow this funding right back into our flood control efforts in Natomas, andquot; said Stein Buer, SAFCA Executive Director.

The North Area Local Project was constructed by SAFCA in the mid 1990's and consisted of extensive levee improvements along the Sacramento River and construction of a pump station in the Natomas East Main Drainage Canal at Dry Creek. Reimbursement for the federal share of the project was requested in 1999 and the remaining balance has been sought since then. The final $4.1 million in federal funding will be able to be used for the extensive flood protection work that SAFCA is currently undertaking.
