Rep. Matsui Announces $488,000 for Paratransit
Federal Funding Will Help to Purchase 6 Additional Mini-Vans, Help Fund Operating Assistance

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) announced that Paratransit, Inc. has been awarded $488,000 in federal funding through a formula grant award made by the Department of Transportation. The funding comes at an important time for the transit agency that provides service to the elderly and disabled. Transit agencies across California have been hit hard by a combination of State and local cuts, as well as declining sales tax revenue.

Continued federal investment in Paratransit is critical to our ability to keep public transit a reality for those with disabilities and the elderly, said Rep. Matsui. Every federal grant Paratransit receives helps them off-set losses at the State and local level, and helps enable them to continue to provide a efficient and reliable transportation system that connects Sacramentans to the doctors, families and community at large.

The $488,000 grant will be distributed through the U.S. Department of Transportation immediately. It will enable Paratransit to purchase six additional mini-vans, as well as help fund operational expenses. Paratransit, Inc., is a private nonprofit corporation that works closely with the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT), to provide transportation services to individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and related agencies throughout the Sacramento County area.
