Rep. Matsui Announces $5 Million In Federal Funding For Sacramento County
Stimulus Dollars Will Help Local Energy Efficiency Initiatives Move Forward

CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) announced the release of $5,364,600 in federal grants for Sacramento County through the Department of Energy and made available through the economic recovery package Rep. Matsui supported earlier this year. The funding will help Sacramento County move forward with plans to adopt sustainable energy solutions, including: energy audits; building retrofits; the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections; and/or the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements.

"The Sacramento business community has invested a tremendous amount of resources into green technology to help promote our community as a clean-tech capital. The millions of dollars being invested by the federal government, specifically through the Recovery Act, is matching that commitment and interest in helping to spur green technology and clean energy jobs right here in Sacramento," Congresswoman Matsui said. "By investing in cleaner, sustainable, and more efficient technologies, we can reduce energy costs for consumers and preserve our neighborhoods for future generations."

This award, an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), is part of $2.7 billion dollar EECBG Program being awarded to more than 2,300 cities, counties, states, and Indian tribes across the nation. Additionally, the Department of Energy plans to release over $400,000,000 in additional grants through a competitive application process.

"I am very excited and pleased to have the EECBG funds released to Sacramento County," said County Supervisor Roger Dickinson. "These funds will give us the ability to measurably improve the energy efficiency savings and the use of energy in our community. We will benefit both from the saving of money for our residents and the environmental benefits in our community. I have long been an advocate for the Block Grant program and I appreciate Congresswoman Matsui's leadership in securing Recovery funds for Sacramento."

"With these stimulus funds, Sacramento County will be able to pursue initiatives that will have both regional environmental and economic benefits," added Cecilia Jensen, Sustainability Program Manager for Sacramento County. "Saving money and improving energy efficiency can go hand in hand."
