Rep. Matsui Announces Almost $5 Million for Sacramento Job Training, Retention Programs

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) announced more than $4.9 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has been allocated by the Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA) to Sacramento-area businesses and workforce development organizations. $4,929,276 in federal funding will go to twenty Sacramento County organizations to train and employ over a thousand job seekers starting July 1, 2009. The money will be broken down into three categories: workplace training, occupational skills, and business development.
"The almost 5 million allocated by SETA to Sacramento-area businesses and workforce development organizations is indicative of President Obama's and this Congress' commitment to use stimulus funding to retain and create American jobs, and help put our country back on track," said Representative Matsui.
andbull; $1,132,884 will help upwards of 200 public assistance recipients, dislocated workers, and people with significant barriers to employment to prepare for employment through paid workplace training and work experience programs;
andbull; $2,973,713 will help over 600 dislocated workers participate in occupational skills training programs through technical and vocational programs; and
andbull; $866,987 is allocated to local businesses and organizations for business development and expansion programs that could help create or retain over 200 job positions.
"This is the time we need to invest in our community to help displaced workers train and re-train for jobs in growing industries," said Rep. Matsui. "I am pleased to see additional funds coming to the Sacramento region to help invest in and support the great work SETA provides to our community."
