Rep. Matsui To Celebrate Green Upgrades Today At Local Manufacturing Plant
Event Will Highlight Stimulus Package In Action

CA - Today, Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 10:00am, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D-Sacramento) will help commemorate the recent installation of a 208 kilowatt (kW) solar panel array at the Plastic Package, Inc. manufacturing plant in North Sacramento. The solar panel array is just a part of the local business' efforts to move towards a more sustainable business practice, and will also help support northern California clean energy companies.

The unique cylindrical solar panels are manufactured by Solyndra Inc., a Bay Area company, who received a $535 million U.S. Department of Energy loan guarantee made possible in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to expand its manufacturing capabilities. The implementation of this alternative energy system at Plastic Package will not only help minimize its own energy demands, but will also assist Sacramento Metropolitan Utility District (SMUD) in reducing peak loads during the summer months. The panels were installed by Premier Power.

"Through tax incentives, rebates and loan guarantees, projects like these help to put us on a path to a cleaner more sustainable future," Congresswoman Matsui said. "Smart investments like these prove that local businesses, including manufactures, can be green and economical. Companies can keep their operating costs low during the summer months and see returns on their investments in as few as four years, all while reducing demand on our energy grid."
