Rep. Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) issued the following statement today after participating in the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee forum on the Economic Recovery Plan:
andquot;Our economy is facing unprecedented challenges. Millions of hard-working Americans have lost their jobs, their homes, and have seen their way of life change this past year. Sadly, all economic indicators suggest that the economy will worsen before it improves.
andquot;Congress has a duty to act responsibly and address the growing need for a robust economic recovery and jobs package. Today, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, on which I serve on, held a forum on the Economic Recovery Plan. We all agree that any new stimulus package should invest in creating and preserving jobs first and foremost. It should also invest in our nation's infrastructure, provide tax relief for hard-working Americans, and help struggling homeowners.
andquot;President-elect Obama and Congress are working together on legislation that will save or create 3 million jobs, ensure that our roads, highways and bridges are safe, and give our economy the shot in the arm that it needs to begin healing. I am committed to working with my colleagues to take quick and effective action to get our economy back on track.andquot;
