Rep. Matsui Speaks with Rancho Cordova Seniors About Financial Reform, Health Insurance Legislation and the Seniors' Bill of Rights
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) spoke with Sacramento-area seniors at the Cordova Senior Center about financial reform, health insurance legislation, and the Seniors' Bill of Rights that she recently helped to introduce in Congress.
"This Congress is committed to seniors' issues and enacting policies that will strengthen Medicare, improve our health care, put in place critical Wall Street reforms and help protect seniors from financial scams," stated Rep. Matsui. "Today's visit gave me an opportunity to help Sacramento's seniors better understand how this crucial legislation impacts them, and hear from about the issues that matter most to them."
"Older Americans across the country have worked hard to provide for their families and many of you defended our nation during critical periods in history," Matsui continued. "And for your years of service and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of this country, you deserve our constant support."
Congresswoman Matsui and her colleagues have formalized their commitment to America's seniors in the form of House Resolution 1344, the Seniors' Bill of Rights. The Seniors' Bill of Rights codifies and upholds their commitment to preserving the dignity and independence of older Americans. The Seniors' Bill of Rights also supports continued legislative efforts that guarantee for seniors, their right to affordable health care, a secure retirement, livable communities, and protection from fraud and abuse.

In addition to addressing current issues relevant to local seniors, Congresswoman Matsui also toured the Center's Art Show on display today, as well as visited their newly-created garden where vegetables and flowers have been planted.
Congresswoman Matsui has been a long-time supporter of the Cordova Senior Center, and helped secure federal funding for the Center to renovate their kitchen. The Congresswoman secured $200,000 to upgrade their kitchen facility, which recently completed construction. Congresswoman Matsui also attended the grand opening and ribbon-cutting event of the kitchen last year.
