Rep. Matsui Statement on President Obama's Address Regarding Central Asian Conflict

Today, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D-Sacramento) issued the following statement following President Obama's West Point address concerning the conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan:

"President Obama was right to make tonight's speech announcing developments in his administration's approach to the conflict in central Asia. I appreciate the President's efforts to communicate the resources and sacrifices that this strategy will require in order to be successful, and I am encouraged by his clear commitment to bring our military involvement in Afghanistan to a conclusion.

"As Obama administration officials testify before Congress in the coming days on the President's revised strategy for the Afghanistan/Pakistan region, I will continue to listen to them and to discuss this important issue with my constituents. Ensuring the long-term safety, security, and prosperity of our nation must be our top priority as we decide what to do next in central Asia."
