Rep. Matsui Statement on White House Startup America Initiative

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, co-chair of the High Tech Caucus, and a member of the Make it in America Working Group, issued the following statement in response to the White House's new Startup America initiative, a national campaign designed to promote entrepreneurship and private sector investment in small businesses.

Investing in American-made technology and products is a clear path to economic recovery, renewed financial stability, and measurable job growth. The Obama Administration's Startup America program, combined with the Make it in America manufacturing legislative initiative I helped launch in the House last summer, will jump start entrepreneurship in the U.S. by providing business owners, students, military veterans, and innovators with the resources they need to create sustainable growth.

Our country has always been a leader in innovation and it is essential that we support our entrepreneurs in order to strengthen our economy today, and create the industries of tomorrow. I applaud the Administration's Startup America initiative, and look forward to continuing to work together to create more American jobs and see that our country remains the land of opportunity.

As a leader of the House Democrats Make it in America manufacturing initiative, Congresswoman Matsui recently introduced the Clean Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act, H.R. 502, which would assist small and medium-sized clean technology businesses export their goods and services. Both in Congress and in Sacramento, Congresswoman Matsui has been focused on expanding the clean technology sector and providing local companies with the federal assistance they need to help grow America's exports.
