Representative Matsui Recognized for Commitment to National Parks
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) was honored with a "Friend of the National Parks" award by the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) for her contribution to protecting and enhancing America's national parks. The award recognizes members with pro-park voting records that upheld the standards and integrity of the National Park System during the 112th Congress.
"It is an honor to receive the andlsquo;Friend of the National Parks' Award from the NPCA," said Congresswoman Matsui. "Our national parks are some of our country's greatest treasures, and their continued preservation speaks to our commitment to sustaining America's great natural resources. As a Member of Congress, I am excited to continue to champion legislation that preserves these sites for future generations."
Since 1919, the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association has been the leading voice of the American people in protecting and enhancing the National Park System. NPCA's "Friend of the National Parks" award was established in 1999 to track and publicize congressional members' votes on significant park issues. This year, NPCA compiled votes for seven national park-related bills in the House.
"We are grateful that our Members of Congress have demonstrated a solid commitment to preserving America's national parks," said NPCA Acting President Theresa Pierno. "As the National Park Service approaches its centennial in 2016, support from our members of Congress is essential to ensure places like Yellowstone, Gettysburg, and Yosemite are preserved and protected for our children and grandchildren to enjoy."
