Representative Matsui Recognized for Commitment to National Parks
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) was honored with a Friend of the National Parks award by the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) for her contribution to protecting and enhancing America's national parks. The award recognizes members with pro-park voting records during the 111th Congress.
I am honored to receive this award from the National Parks Conservation Association, said Representative Matsui. Our national parks and monuments celebrate our country's rich natural and historical diversity, and their ongoing preservation is a testament to our nation's commitment to protecting America's land and resources. I will continue to champion legislation that preserves these sites for generations to come.
Since 1919, the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association has been the leading voice of the American people in protecting and enhancing our National Park System. NPCA, its 600,000 members and supporters, and many partners work together to protect the park system and preserve our nation's natural, historical, and cultural heritage for our children and grandchildren. NPCA's Friend of the National Parks Award was established in 1999 to track and publicize congressional members votes on significant park issues.
America's national parks are living classrooms that teach us valuable lessons about our shared heritage, and Representative Matsui's support is essential to the protection and preservation of our national treasure, said NPCA President Tom Kiernan.
