Sacramento to Receive More Than $4 Million for Homeland Security EffortsToday, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) announced the Department of Homeland Security has awarded the Sacramento Region more than $4 million for the emergency management and anti-terrorism activities through the Homeland Security Grant Programs. The City will receive $3,947,286 through the Urban Areas Security Initiatives (UASI) program.
"These funds give our local agencies the funding they need to prepare, prevent and respond if terrorist or natural catastrophes occur," said Matsui. "This is the federal government's commitment and investment in one of our most valuable assets - our nation's law enforcement and emergency responders - at work."
"We look forward to receiving the2010 Homeland Security funding which will help enhance our community's safety," said Sacramento Police Chief Rick Braziel. "We are also appreciative of Congresswoman Matsui's continued leadership and support for Homeland Security funding opportunities for our region."
The UASI grant program addresses the unique planning, organization, equipment and training needs of high-threat, high-density urban areas, and assists them in building an enhanced and sustainable capacity to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism.
California will receive a total of more than $318 million through Homeland Security Grant Programs allocations, of which the City of Sacramento and Sacramento County are also eligible to apply for additional funds.
