Sacramento to Receive Over $4.7 Million in Funding to Address Homelessness through Economic Recovery Package Passed Last Week

Sacramento will receive $4,771,899; with the City of Sacramento receiving $2,375,126, and Sacramento County $2,396,773. The funds were made available through the recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which Rep. Matsui voted for and President Obama signed into law last week.

"Sacramento has suffered greatly from the current economic crisis. From foreclosures to furloughs to job losses, Sacramento is facing enormous economic challenges. This funding will target struggling families and individuals in Sacramento who may fall into homelessness without this assistance. I applaud HUD for taking quick action to allocate funding in the Recovery Act to prevent homelessness and help those who are in need today, and will continue to fight to protect Sacramento families from financial ruin" said Congresswoman Matsui.

The allocated funds will provide for a variety of assistance, including: short-term or medium-term rental assistance; housing relocation; and stabilization services such as mediation, security or utility deposits, utility payments, moving costs and assistance, and case management.
