Yesterday, Representative Doris Matsui (D-CA) was joined by her House Energy and Commerce Colleagues: Commerce Trade and Consumer Protection (CTCP) Subcommittee Chairman Bobby Rush (D-IL); Chairman Emeritus John D. Dingell (D-MI); and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA), in introducing H.R. 5156, the Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act of 2010, to boost the competiveness of America's clean technology industry in the U.S. and international marketplace.
See below to see what others are saying about Rep. Matsui's legislation:
It is astounding that the United States actually has a trade deficit in clean energy, when American companies are among the most competitive in the world. Third Way's research has found that a prime reason for this is that promoting clean energy exports is often a back burner issue for the U.S. government. The Matsui legislation puts this issue on the front burner, and would bring a national focus and needed resources to promoting these key exports.
- Ed Gerwin, Senior Fellow for Trade and Global Economic Policy, Third Way
The U.S. has the opportunity to embark on an aggressive and sustained strategy to expand clean energy markets for domestic manufacturing and increase U.S. exports. The Council commends the leadership of Representatives Doris Matsui, Bobby Rush, John Dingell, and Anna Eshoo and looks forward to working with Congress as it considers this important piece of legislation.
- Lisa Jacobson, President, Business Council for Sustainable Energy
It is rare for communities to capture world-wide opportunities in industry development. The Sacramento region is becoming a Clean Tech Hub and has put its stake in the ground to lead in the industry. The collaboration between those of us on the ground and our elected leadership at the local, state and federal levels to accomplish this goal is impressive. The Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act of 2010 sponsored by Congresswoman Matsui is a testament to the level of engagement our elected leadership is taking to accomplish this goal. I applaud Rep. Matsui for her leadership and look forward to working with her to make the Sacramento the Clean Tech Hub of the World.

Legislation to create a Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Fund will be an important ingredient in meeting President Obama's ambitious goal to double US exports in five years. This program can also help drive US manufacturing leadership in the low-carbon economy of the future by facilitating innovative US firms' access to what will be a huge global market for clean energy.
- William G. Morin, Director of Government Affairs, Applied Materials, Inc.
We remain very enthused about building high quality manufacturing in the United States for solar technologies, specifically at McClellan. This legislation will certainly be helpful. We can t build a business that relies solely on selling products into Sacramento County. We currently sell our products into Europe, Asia and Australia and it is our firm intent to sell the products we will be making at McClellan throughout the world.
- Steve Kircher, Chairman and CEO, Solar Power, Inc.
N Solar is very supportive of Congresswoman Matsui's clean tech manufacturing and exporting legislation. N Solar will be establishing its U.S. headquarters and solar module manufacturing operations based at McClellan Business Park. We believe that the most urgent and important measures to boost clean tech industry is preparing support programs for manufacturing.

OPDE U.S. Corporation enthusiastically supports Congresswoman Matsui's efforts to enact the Clean Energy Technology Manufacturing and Export Assistance Act of 2010. And Proinso, the distribution arm of OPDE U.S., views the Congresswoman's bill as an opportunity to increase exports of this U.S. manufactured clean technology equipment.
