A few hundred people supporting abortion rights gathered Tuesday evening outside a federal courthouse in downtown Sacramento, angry over a leaked draft opinion that shows the U.S. Supreme Court is on the verge of overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

They stood outside the Robert T. Matsui U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building, holding pink placards with the phrase “Healthcare Is A Human Right” and chanting “Stand up, fight back!”

SacTree unveils plans for new cherry grove overlooking Sacramento River at Matsui Park

A special place to celebrate cherry blossom time is coming to Sacramento’s river front.

On April 14, the Sacramento Tree Foundation unveiled plans to transform a lawn overlooking the Sacramento River into a Hanami Line – a gathering place framed by rows of flowering cherry trees.

Hundreds of millions of new federal dollars are headed to the region to help fund the massive Natomas levee project. President Joe Biden has signed legislation that includes $157 million for an existing project in the Natomas Basin, as well as $17.9 million to begin construction in West Sacramento. In addition, Biden’s budget proposal for fiscal 2023, the 12 month period that begins Oct. 1, includes another $172 million for the levee project and $79.7 million to help the West Sacramento project.

More than 100 cherry trees should be in full bloom around this time next year at Robert T. Matsui Park along the Sacramento River as the centerpiece of a nearly $7 million project announced Thursday by the Sacramento Tree Foundation.

U.S. lawmakers hope to spur additional electronic health record (EHR) adoption in behavioral health by creating a financial incentive to do so.

The Behavioral Health Information Technologies (BHIT) Now Act, formally known as House Resolution 7427, would appropriate $250 million to be issued over three fiscal federal years by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to help finance EHR rollouts.
