Congresswoman Matsui Statement on the Retirement of Sacramento Regional Transit General Manager Mike Wiley

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement on Sacramento Regional Transit General Manager Mike Wiley's announcement that he will retire at the end of the2016 calendar year:

"Mike has led Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) with a clear vision for the last eight years," said Congresswoman Matsui. "Throughout his illustrious 38 years at RT, Mike has demonstrated his passion for public transportation and quality service. He successfully guided RT through the economic recession and will leave the agency on solid financial footing. I want to thank Mike for his many years of service and for his advocacy for growing Sacramento's transit network."

"Over the last few years I have worked hand in hand with Mike to expand our light rail and bus service. In August, we successfully completed the long anticipated extension of RT's Blue Line 4.3 miles south to Cosumnes River College. In 2009, RT opened the new Green Line to the River District that will eventually be extended to the airport. Furthermore, Mike has been critical in the development of Sacramento's transportation intermodal facility in the Railyards that will one day be the hub for the region's transportation system."

"With Mike's decision to retire at the end of next year, Sacramento is losing a passionate, tireless transportation advocate. I have enjoyed working with Mike and wish him and his family nothing but the best for the future."
