MATSUI STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BIDEN’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement after President Biden’s State of the Union address.
“This evening, President Biden gave a resounding pledge to the nation – doubling down on his belief in the character, courage and resilience of the American people. Since day one, President Biden has prioritized our economic recovery, investing in American workers and making sure we build from the bottom up and middle out – giving American families the tools to succeed. We have built opportunity out of crisis – creating millions of good-paying jobs, shrinking unemployment, and reaffirming our commitment to American ingenuity.
“Right now, we have the opportunity to continue this historic progress. That means making critical investments in our domestic supply chains and our innovation economy, especially in the semiconductor industry. It means tackling the climate crisis head on, with bold policies and investments in clean energy and sustainable transportation. It means investing in not only our physical, but also our mental health, and growing our Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers program, which I have long championed to expand Americans’ access to treatment in community-based settings.
“Across the world, we must also stand as a beacon for democracy.Putin’s unprovoked war in Ukraine has only strengthened the resolve of President Biden to rally our European and NATO allies to stand united. The courage and determination of the Ukrainian people has inspired the world, and President Biden is taking decisive action to hold Putin accountable. As President Biden said tonight, Putin ‘thought he could divide us here at home. Putin was wrong. We were ready.’
“The challenges we face are some of the most consequential of our lifetime, and that is why we must have a comprehensive strategy to deliver solutions to the American people. President Biden laid out his vision to build a better America – and it is well within our grasp. Now, we must get to work crafting the policies to make it a reality.”
