Omnibus Appropriations Bill Bolsters Sacramento Streetcar Project

March 22, 2018

Washington, D.C. Today, the House passed an omnibus appropriations bill for the remainder of FY 2018 that includes a total of over $400 million for Small Starts projects, such as the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar. Specifically, the legislation contains language that Congresswoman Matsui outlined and fought for in a June 2017 letter, which mandates that FTA spend remaining federal funds Congress has appropriated to construct transit projects, including for the Streetcar. Congresswoman Matsui released the following statement on this development:

"This legislation is good news for the Streetcar because it provides millions of federal dollars that local stakeholders can access in order to fund the project's full federal cost share. I will continue encouraging and working with the project's local advocates to complete their work to sign a grant agreement with FTA as soon as possible, so that we can bring this federal funding back to Sacramento to build the Streetcar."
