Today the House of Representatives passed S. 2873, the counterpart to H.R. 5395, the Expanding Capacity for Health Outcomes Act, or the ECHO Act, introduced by Congressman Michael C. Burgess M.D. (R-TX) and Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) in the House of Representatives. The Senate unanimously passed S. 2873 last week, introduced by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI). It will now go to the President's desk for signature.

Princess Cruise Lines Will Pay Criminal Penalty for Intentional Pollution

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) praised the Department of Justice's (DOJ) announcement that Princess Cruise Lines Ltd. has agreed to plead guilty to felony charges resulting from their intentional actions to pollute the ocean by illegally dumping oil contaminated waste. "Princess Cruise Lines' intentional cover-up of their environmental recklessness is disgraceful and indicative of a troublesome industry culture," said Congresswoman Matsui.

For the 30 million Americans with rare diseases, there is often no effective treatment option even to address symptoms, much less a cure. With all the great innovation and advances in technology of the 21st Century, we can do better.

The two Congresswomen this week introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to designate a National Community Gardening Awareness Week to support the gardens nationwide.
