WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Reps. Doris Matsui (D-CA), John Sarbanes (D-MD), and Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) introduced The Residential Energy and Economic Savings (TREES) Act, a bill to help homeowners lower energy costs, reduce stormwater runoff, and mitigate the effects of climate change by planting more trees.

The bill creates a new Department of Energy (DOE) grant program that offers homeowners free or reduced-cost tree-planting services to help shade homes, reduce energy use, and tackle the climate crisis.

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-6), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, applauded House passage of her legislation H.R. 2647, the Safer Occupancy Furniture Flammability Act (SOFFA). SOFFA would establish a national flammability standard, based on California's Technical Bulletin 117-2013, and alter flammability testing for common household furniture.

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-6), Co-Chair of the House Democratic Caucus Taskforce on Aging and Families, hailed House passage of H.R. 3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drugs Costs Now Act. This landmark bill gives Medicare the power to negotiate directly with the drug companies to bring down prices and make those savings available to all Americans with private insurance. The Lower Drug Costs Now Act will also cap out-of-pocket costs for Medicare beneficiaries and expand coverage to include vision, dental, and hearing services.
