M. Chairman, I am very pleased to be here today. Thank you for calling a hearing on such an important issue.
I would also like to thank today's panelists for sharing their expertise, and adding to our understanding of the risks and potential costs of climate change.
Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) announced thatthe Department of Veterans Affairs will open a new VetsCenter in Sacramento Countyby the Fall of 2009. The new Center was madepossible by the $15 million funding increase for Vet Centers provided last yearby the Democratic Congress. .
Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) hailed upcoming legislation to help address the escalating cost of gasoline. The U.S. House of Representatives will take up four separate pieces of legislation this week to counter gas prices.

Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) voted for and hailed passage of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) Relief Act of 2008 (H.R. 6275). The bill is a one-year patch that will protect 25 million families from being burdened with taxes that were never intended to affect the middle-class.
