The civic-minded high school students were chosen to participate in a Teening Up for a Greener World Summit sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association. They are spending three days in Washington, D.C. to meet with lawmakers and learn about public transportation.

Rep. Doris Matsui Votes for Legislation to Invest in Rail and Mass Transit

Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) announced that Damarys Solorzano, a junior from Florin High School, has been named the Congressional Art Competition winner from California's Fifth District. Ms. Solorzano will travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in a reception honoring the winners from across the nation and see the unveiling of her artwork in the United States Capitol.

This afternoon, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) was named to the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over a vast amount of issues, ranging from national policy on health care and energy, to interstate and foreign commerce and consumer safety.

Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-5) successfully amended the Defense Department Authorization Bill to ensure that America's veterans receive the full scope of education benefits to which they are entitled. After being contacted by a constituent, Rep. Matsui investigated the issue with the Army and Department of Defense and crafted an amendment to correct the current law.
